Moving my parents (10+ year customers) from Orcon

My parents have stuck with Orcon for over 10 years, customers since I was living at home and when they were actually the best ISP in Auckland. I've moved them to Bigpipe fibre now however, but Orcon still managed to screw essentially everything required of them up.

1. Didn't upgrade them to unlimited ADSL (that was meant to be backdated to start of the billing period) even though rep specifically said she could. Then charged for overages. Had to call and email to reverse. As part of the initial upgrade call the CSR specifically said there would be no new term as a result of upgrading. I confirmed this twice. This is relevant for next point...

2. Rang up to cancel the service the next week to move to Bigpipe fibre. Knew about the 30 day notice and that was fine, but was told there would be a $199 early disconnection fee because they moved from a 80GB plan to unlimited the week before, and as a result were put on a 12 month contract. Again had to call/email to sort. Told them to review the call recording. Charges dropped. My parents were customers for over 10 years on their crappy service and only changed plans the week before, yet they still try this on!?

3. We were moving my folks landline number to 2talk and the port is scheduled for Monday 19th. On Thurs 15th Orcon disconnect the landline (we paid up to 20th December when the account was meant to close). Again, call up and they confirm they closed it early by mistake. Probably as a result of me returning the modem. Now unsure if we will retain the landline number my parents have had for 20+ years. Orcon trying to fix and 2talk bought forward the port, but it doesn't appear to have worked. If you have any ideas here I would gladly listen!

I always told myself that poor ISP service didn't really matter as the internet connections these days rarely require you to call in and deal with them. This goes to show that one way or the other a crap ISP like Orcon will shaft you.
